A Book Stand Makes a Good Gift for Readers

A book stand is a real convenience for every real book lover. Currently available models range from straight forward wire devices such as the Fold’N'Stow that holds a book at adjustable angles on any flat surface, to the ultimately sophisticated LEVO Bookholder which embraces your book or other reading material in either a floor standing design or a clamp-on model that securely clamps to any table, desk, or counter top. Most book stand models function well with hardcovers, but they also can work quite well with paperback books held by book holders such as an OpenPage.

The Fold’N'Stow is among the least expensive of book stands. It folds virtually flat and comes with it’s own convenient pouch punched for use in a 3 ring binder. It can be used on a countertop for recipe books, or atop your desk, table, workstation, bench, etc. Wire arms with page keepers extend from the back plane to secure your book open, and, by adjusting how far apart the arms are, smaller and larger books may be easily accommodated. The back plane has horizontal pieces that can be moved to vary the angle at which the book is held relative to the surface upon which it is resting.

The most popular model of the LEVO book stand is the LEVO floor stand model, which includes a weighted base on casters for ease of movement from chair side to bedside to desk side to beside the kitchen counter top. Wherever you choose to put it, the LEVO will support in virtually any position you can imagine. Incorporating a bookboard which can be adjusted in any plane, and coupled with book mounting straps that will securely hold your book, even in an inverted position, the LEVO allows for totally hand-free reading just about anywhere.

The LEVO Desk model is just as convenient as its floor standing sibling, but incorporates a clamp that firmly attaches to just about any countertop, workbench, desk, table or other flat surface up to 2 inches thick, and offers identical movements as the floor stand model, without the range of vertical telescoping movements. By keeping your book or other reading materials up off the surface to which it is attached, the clamp-on model saves the weight and expense of the weighted floor base while still freeing up work space, since neither your book nor your book holder rest on the surface.

While there are other book stand designs available, the Fold’N'Stow and LEVO designs have stood the test of time and hold up well to constant use.
