Downtown city life might not fit everyone’s personality, but for those who are drawn to it, dowtown Portland real estate provides perks that other cities just don’t have.

One of the best benefits to living in the heart of Portland is the ease of transportation to and from the Portland downtown and within it. For most of the residents here in Portland, walking, biking, and public transit are the preferred mode of transportation. However, there’s no need for cars or bikes if you use Portland’s public transit system, TriMet. But Portland is very much a flexible kind of city and accommodates all methods of transportation.

Walking regularly is one way to get (and stay) healthy, and Portland is definitely pedestrian-friendly. In fact, Portland city blocks were made quite a bit smaller than those in some other cities (200 feet instead of a typical 300 to 800 feet), making it a short stroll to Portland’s many corner restaurants and shops. If your place of work is downtown, this means you may truly be able to get rid of your car completely.

Portland’s downtown has wonderful residential areas where you can buy a Portland condo or loft and reside in the core of the city in style. Depending of course on where your employer is located, you may end up within walking distance from it.

There are many great areas to look into if you want to purchase a loft or townhome in Portland, but for a lot of people, the top choice is The Pearl District. It’s popular because of the abundance of stores as well as easy to use transportation, The Pearl District is also where many fashionable art galleries and high-end businesses are located.
