We all set out to get something for nothing! Well – to pay as little as possible anyway. Take designer bank checks for example. Is it possible to buy these cheaply? Of course people become touchy about the checks they use because the designs say something about them. They are almost an extension of their personalities. Does it really matter what checks cost and is the difference between the cheaper and more expensive ones really measurable? Some printers will opt for low grade paper with very little chalk content and you can feel this the moment you rub the paper between your fingers. They feel thin and weak. For most purposes it is wise to stay clear of checks printed on this type of paper because they are easily susceptible to damage and image deterioration. In the worst cases the paper will not even hold the ink properly and this can result in smearing and smudging and even ink coming off on the fingers of the handler. What will you do if when the check arrives in the mail to where you have sent it is found to be damaged or unreadable? And this could so easily have been avoided. And all this comes at a cost to you because resending has charges attached. You cant ask the post office to mail your letter free of charge! The amount you saved on your cheap checks may not have been worth the saving.
How to Avoid The Pitfall of Cheap Checks
The American national Standards Institute has laid out the standards of conformity for check printing and unfortunately the cheaper printers tend not to acknowledge these standards. The security side of check printing is paramount for the consumer and often these things are ignored by cheap check printers to save money., and proper high grade check printing paper provides added security and protection as it is almost impossible to amend once it has been completed. In the long run, you may be better off spending a few more dollars on checks that are ANSI compliant. If you want to be sure that your checks can not be copied or defaced in any way, be willing to pay a little more for them. It makes sense to pay the few extra cents.
My final recommendation is that if you need to order cheap checks then be careful – but there is no need to be too wary. Nearly all of the major check printers are perfectly alright.!
